The Good Sugar?

Is there good sugar?

sugarI’m constantly reading articles about the dangers of sugar but did you know that sugar is actually a necessity for your body?

All of your cells use sugar for energy. In SMALL amounts it supports you.

The problem is sugar taste AMAZING and if you consume large amounts of sugar often, you could be setting yourself for a BIG health fall!

According to Dr. Mercola’s in his blog “The Truth About Sugar” he says, “Massive sugar addiction can result in obesity, diabetes, heart damage or failure, cancer cell production, depletion of brain power, and shorter lifespans.” In fact, Dr. Mercola’s article includes 76, that’s 76 ways sugar can RUIN your health! Um…wow!

A few ways sugar negatively affects your body include:

  • Upsets the mineral relationship in your body
  • Interferes with the absorption of calcium, magnesium, and protein
  • Increases total cholesterol, triglycerides, and bad cholesterol levels

You can see the entire list at: http://articles.mercola.com/sugar-addiction.aspx

Not only does consuming too much sugar negatively affect your body but sugar is the #1 food they ask you to GET OUT of your diet if you’re diagnosed with cancer!

How do you know if you are consuming too much sugar?

Here are some clues:

  • Do you crave something sweet after a meal?
  • Do you struggle with brain fog and thinking clearly?
  • Do you need something sweet in the afternoon to regain your energy?
  • Do you struggle with belly fat?
  • Are you challenged with having only one piece of cake, candy or other sweet?

Not all of the above can be related to sugar only but sugar addiction can be a MAJOR contributing factor if the above sounds like you! Oh Yeah!

Something else you should know:

Okay, this really makes me sad and it’s something that you need to know!

dollar1The food industry has spent millions of dollars hiring scientists to find out the correct combination of sugar, fat and salt that will set off an addictive chemical reaction in your brain so you crave that food!

Yep!

That seriously SUCKS!!!

It frustrates me because the one thing we need is food and to know many food companies are creating food that is not healthy for our bodies, and made with ingredients they know will cause an addiction is, for lack of a better phrase, Seriously EVIL!

This is why I created the “Food Reset and Detox” program and the next program begins Oct 22nd, but more on that in a bit. You can check it out here.

What I’d like to let you know is that there IS a better alternative to white sugar, Yeah!

A white sugar alternative which has been used for 1,000’s of years and has a small amount of vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, Folate, and magnesium it’s HONEY!

honey-jar

Throughout history, honey has been used to treat…

  • Coughs
  • Wounds
  • Indigestion
  • Skin infections
  • Fatigue
  • Flu’s
  • Burns
  • And more!

I recently read in an article on Thealternativedaily.com that honey was the most popular ancient Egyptian healing remedy (and was mentioned over 500 times in 900 remedies.) WOW!

A 2009 study, published in the journal of the American Dietetic Association, found eight samples of supermarket honey had “intermediate” antioxidant activity. Specifically, honey had more antioxidant activity than refined white sugar, which had nearly zero. (1) Antioxidants have been shown to slow cellular damage caused by free radicals and these days our cells need all the help they can get!

Honey has been shown to break down a bit more slowly than regular sugar says Amanda Kirpitch, a nutritionist at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston but it is STILL a sugar and should be consumed moderately. Remember all the negative affects sugar has on the body they still apply even with honey.

If you are watching your weight, please know that honey contains 21 calories a teaspoon, compared with 16 calories for refined white sugar, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s nutrient database. Like ALL sweets, you should eat honey sparingly.

Other sugar to consider is that which comes from fruit. And again, you don’t want to over consume this sugar either.

The best time to have sugar is before or after a workout. Consuming sugar at this time allows your body to use it right away to restore the sugar you use while working out! Oh Yeah!

SUMMING THINGS UP:

The sugar you buy in the grocery store, in processed foods and packaged deserts is made VERY cheaply and will 100% ruin your health when eaten consistently in large quantities.

Honey is a nice alternative but eat it sparingly!

The best time to eat sugar is before and after a workout!

IF YOU ARE ADDICTED TO SUGAR:

If you are addicted to sugar, you’re not alone! Sugar addiction is said to be worse than heroin addiction.
